Smithsonian Asian American Literary Festival Reading - July 28

I'm giving a reading for Poetry Magazine at the Phillips Collection in DC as part of the Asian American Literary Festival! I'll be reading with Sarah Gambito, Larissa Lai, and Tsering Wangmo Dhompa, and the reading will be moderated by Poetry's assistant editor Lindsay Garbutt. It's on Friday, July 28 from 2-3pm.

Teaching in Cortona, Italy

This spring, Feb. 1-April 26, I'm teaching a creative writing class on Hybrid Forms in the UGA study-abroad program in Cortona, Italy. This opportunity appeared in my life suddenly, and I'm so glad I took it. My students are amazing, and we meet twice a week in the yard outside a former convent on top of a hill.

Pushcart Nominations

I received two nominations for work published in 2016: the poem "Want at Least Evening" from Eleven Eleven and the essay "No Wound" from The RumpusThis second nomination, I learned, came from The Rumpus contributing editor / literary crush of mine Jaquira Díaz. Thank you!

Vermont Studio Center

I was a resident at Vermont Studio Center in November/December 2016.

Heat season again: Costa Rica & VCCA (+ notes on previous travels)

I'm here at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts in Amherst, VA from June 17-July 17. Two big wild bunnies greeted me the first day I approached my studio, and yesterday before a thunderstorm a tiny black cat with a white diamond on her throat came by and pressed her face to the door.

In May I taught two classes, Essay as Encounter and Poetry/Vivid Prose, through UGA Costa Rica. My students were brilliant and warm and sustaining.

Pushcart Nomination

I'm deeply moved: Black Warrior Review chose my essay "Mooncalf," which appears in issue 42.1, as one of their 2015 nominations for the Pushcart Prize. Thank you!

October in San Francisco

On October 17, I'll be reading at LitQuake in San Francisco as part of Kundiman West Presents: The American Poem. If you live in or near that beloved city, please come--I'll be so delighted to see you.
